Vorige week donderdag stond alles in teken van Isabel Marant en H&M. Na onder andere MMM, Marni en Lanvin was het dit jaar de beurt aan Isabel Marant om met H&M in zee te gaan. Ik was super gelukkig toen het nieuws bekend werd, want Isabel Marant is in mijn ogen een topwijf (sorry not sorry voor de verwoording). Haar creaties zijn altijd vrouwelijk met een edgy en rauwe touch, just the way I like it. Toen de creaties online bekend werden gemaakt op de website van H&M was ik er als de kippen bij. Niet alle stuks zijn volledig mijn ding (een lederen broek of een midijurk in chiffon is een echte no-no voor mij), maar de botjes, de sequin pants en de wollen jas stonden hoog op mijn wishlist! Tot mijn grote verbazing werd de collectie ook in H&M Gent gelanceerd. En dus stond ik donderdag ochtend om half 9, in de koude en regen, in de rij tussen een hoop andere fashionistas, vol spanning wachtend op het startsein om aan te vallen. En heel eerlijk? De organisatie liet echt volledig te wensen over. Om 9 uur stipt mocht het eerste groepje Isabel Marant fans binnen, 5 minuten later mocht ook mijn groepje naar binnen. Jammer genoeg hing er al helemaal niets meer in de rekken. De dames voor mij hadden echt letterlijk elk stuk dat ze konden grijpen meegenomen naar de paskamers zodat de mensen die niet bij de eerste lichting waren helemaal niets meer hadden (zucht). Geen bandjes, geen aantal stuks-limiet, ... Het was een en al chaos, niet voor herhaling vatbaar (och wat maak ik mezelf toch wijs?). Om niet voor niets de koude getrotseerd te hebben besloot ik nog even aan de paskamers te blijven hangen. En met succes want een half uurtje (en veel 'ik wil dat stuk, geef dat aan mij') later kon ik een van mijn favorieten bemachtigen: de wollen jas! Na nog een gesprekje met Katja Retsin ('als jij die niet neemt mag je hem aan mij geven hoor') kon ik eindelijk afrekenen en keerde ik met een fantastisch (en licht-geïrriteerd) gevoel terug naar de Blandijn.
Achteraf gezien was die hele heisa het wel een beetje waard, want ik ben super tevreden met mijn jas. Hoewel niet iedereen achter de samenwerkingen tussen designers en modeketens staat, ben ik helemaal pro. Deze samenwerkingen maken het voor ons - jonge studenten met een gelimiteerd budget - wél mogelijk om een designerstuk aan een betaalbare prijs te bemachtigen. Dus, in tegenstelling tot wat ik een aantal regels hierboven zei, zal ik bij de volgende samenwerking tussen H&M en een topontwerper opnieuw in de rij staan. Geen regen of koude die mij zal tegenhouden.
Last week everything was organized for the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection. After MMM, Marni and Lavin among others, this year Isabel Marant took the plunge together with H&M. I was super happy when the news was announced, Isabel Marant is in my eyes a top gal (sorry not sorry for the formulation). Her creations are always feminine with an edgy, raw touch, just how I like it. When the creations were launched on the H&M website, I rushed to check out the pieces. Not every piece is completely my cup of tea (leather pants or a midi chiffon dress is a no-no for me) but the booties, the sequin pants and the woolen coat were high on the wishlist! To my big surprise, the collection was also launched in Ghent. And that's why I ended up in the coldness and rain, together with a bunch of other fashionistas waiting for the start sign to attack. And honestly? The organisation was a real mess. At 9 o'clock the first group of IM fans was able to enter the store. 5 minutes later my group could enter too. Unfortunately there was nothing left in the rails. The ladies before me had litteraly scrambled every single piece they could get in their hands with as a result that my group (and the ones after us) had nothing left to fit (sigh). No bangles, no number restrictions ... One big chaos it was, never going to do it again (oh what do I keep telling myself?) Not wanting to have defied the cold for nothing, I waited next to the fitting rooms. And it was a succes! Half an hour (and a lot of 'give that to me, I want that') later I could seize one of my favorites: the woolen coat! After a short conversation with Katja Retsin ('if you're not going to take that one, give it to me') I could finally pay and return to the Blandijn.
Afterwards, I think every thing was worth it, 'cause I am super happy with my coat. Although not everyone is fond of these collabs between designers and fashion stores, I am totally pro. These collabs make it possible for young students with a limited budget, like me, to afford a designer piece. So, in contrast with what I said a few lines above, I will be in line for the next collab between H&M and a topdesigner. No rain or cold will hold me back.
